Avian Influenza commonly known as “Avian Flu” is a viral problem caused by Orthomyxo viruses.It is characterized by sneezing, coughing, gasping, lacrimal and nasal discharge. The prominent postmortem lesions are petechial hemorrhages in trachea, mucoid filled naries, swelling of infraorbital sinuses up to neck, focal hemorrhages on shanks and un-feathered skin, purple discoloration of combs, wattles and hocks.Influenza in birds is caused by three genera of avian influenza viruses A, B and C but Influenza A viruses are known to naturally infect birds.
