It can be used as a treatment in the main aquarium, as a preventative in a quarantine/hospital tank, or as a one-hour medicated dip. Seachem ParaGuard is a versatile aquarium medication for treating external parasites (like Ich/velvet), fungi, bacteria, and viral lesions in fish, known for being safer than formaldehyde-based treatments, fish & filter safe, and pH neutral. It's used as a daily dose (5mL per 10 gallons) for active infections or as a medicated dip (3mL per gallon for 1-hour) for quarantine, requiring removal of invertebrates and chemical filtration. Its aldehyde-based formula requires daily redosing as aldehydes are volatile, making it excellent for early intervention and quarantine. How to Use Preparation: Remove invertebrates (shrimp, snails, corals) and any chemical filtration (like carbon) from the tank. Standard Dose: Add 5mL (1 capful) of ParaGuard for every 10 US gallons (40L) of water. Repeat: Apply the dose daily as long as fish show no stress. Medicated Dip (Optional): Use 3mL per 1 US gallon (4L) in a separate container for 1-hour dips, observing fish for stress. Post-Treatment: After treatment, perform a large water change and reintroduce carbon to remove residue.
