It has an antibacterial spectrum that is predominantly effective against Mycoplasma, Pasteurella and Haemophilus spp. and various Gram-positive organisms such as Staphylococcus spp. It is believed to affect bacterial protein synthesis. Cross-resistance between tilmicosin and other macrolide antibiotics has been observed.
