Product Overview

Description Castration rings, also commonly referred to as elastrator bands or rubber rings, are small, thick, highly elastic bands used in a bloodless method of castrating and tail-docking young livestock. Here is a detailed description: Physical Characteristics: * Material: They are typically made of a very strong, high-quality, durable rubber or natural latex. * Shape: They are small, thick rings with a tiny internal circumference in their resting (un-stretched) state. * Color: They are often brightly colored, such as green, orange, or sometimes blue. * Elasticity: They possess exceptional elasticity, allowing them to be stretched significantly (using an applicator tool) to fit over the animal’s tail or scrotum, but then contract back down with immense pressure. * Sizes: While standard sizes are used for lambs, kids, and small calves, specific larger bands are sometimes available for older or larger animals, though the practice on older animals is often regulated or discouraged due to welfare concerns. Function and Mechanism: * Purpose: The primary function is to perform a bloodless (or non-surgical) method of castration (removing the testicles) or tail docking (removing the tail). * Application: The ring is applied using a specialized tool called a castration ring applicator or elastrator. The applicator stretches the ring wide enough to be placed at the base of the scrotum (above the testicles) or the tail. * Action: Once the applicator is released, the strong elastic band snaps back, creating a very tight constriction. This pressure immediately cuts off the blood supply to the tissue below the band. * Result: Due to the lack of blood flow, the tissues distal (below) the ring die from necrosis, dry up, and eventually slough off (fall away) naturally, usually within a few weeks. Usage Note: Elastration is a common practice, but it is typically recommended and/or legally required to be performed on animals within the first few days or weeks of life (e.g., lambs under seven days old in some regions) to minimize pain and discomfort. Note 20 Rupees per ring
